Iolite is a popular gemstone famous for its beautiful, violet
blue color. In fact, it was named from the Greek word "ios",
meaning violet. The gem form of cordierite, it is sometimes called "water
sapphire". The color can look somewhat like blue sapphire but really
more closely resembles Tanzanite. If you love Tanzanite, but don't have
the budget for it, Iolite is a good substitute.
