Cabochon cut gemstones generally have a dome shaped top, slightly sloped sides and a flat back. In most cases they have a highly polished surface. This type of cut is usually used for opaque or translucent gemstones. They are often cut in standard, "calibrated" sizes that are round or oval. These should fit into standard pre-manufactured jewelry settings. Other times they are freeform cuts that maybe any size or shape. The sizes of the pictures are not relative to the sizes of the actual stones so note the stated sizes. No two stones are alike, so if more than one is available, the picture is typical but there will be some variations.
